They've done it, again.

Well, they've done it again.

Obama bloggers--paid or unpaid--have turned yet another democratic blog, the great MyDD, into an "obamablog", where any statement critical of Obama is met with faux outrage, dismissal, and ridicule.  The Obama people have smeared all democrats who do not fall in line with them.  HRC supporters have been banned, warned, had their work edited, and "gang-troll rated" into oblivion.

MyDD has gone the way of daily kos.

The purpose of this diary is to respond to an earlier reccommended diary on the "signs of republican or McCain trolls"--or ways to spot what the author called "democrats supporting McCain."  The diary disturbed me as it seemed the penultimate way to trash every HRC supporter who said anything critical of Obama...in other words, "criticize Obama = republican troll". The diary received many comments, and led subsequently to various commenters awarding "McCain points" to several HRC diarists in other posts, or to employ the "dismiss the argument" tactic by saying "is this snark?"

I don't want the site's obama people to forget that their behavior is transparent and how it is easy to see how they have approached and managed to take over so many blogs, and done so by maligning another democrat and half the democratic party that supports her. If you dare, follow below the fold.

There are essentially 5 characteristics of the Obama bloggers' approach to eliminating HRC supporters, or dialogue about Obama on these sites.  I give full credit to LavenderLiberal.com for the analysis, and add a few other things I've seen.

Basically it is a style of attack that is intended to eliminate and marginalize.  It is not FOR Obama, it is AGAINST Clinton.  In this manner, no issue about Obama is ever really discussed, even if it could effect the entire democratic party in November, even if that issue is raised for the purpose of dealing with it before it becomes an issue.

Here they are.  Do your comments fit in here anywhere?  Alternatively, have you been subject to any of these tactics yourself?

Attack/Gloat mode.  "Hillary is evil. Clintonistas are racist, uneducated old, irrelevant, paleofeminists, white-trash republican trolls (see the referenced diary above for spotting these mccain trolls)."
Threat Mode.  "If McCain wins, say good bye to roe v wade; say hello to the 100 year war, say goodbye to life on earth as we know it, and its all your fault"!  And if Obama loses its because HRC continued her campaign through June 3rd!
Tantrum Mode. "Fine, go ahead and vote McCain, then! We don't need you anyway!  We've replaced  you with millions of new voters!  You were never a real democrat. The party is better off without you!"
Stark reality mode.  Among themselves: "Oh shit...maybe we do need the Clintonistas in November!" To HRC supporters: "come on, we're all democrats, we need to pull together, can't we just get along?"
Over-confidence Mode.  "I'm not worried.  HRC supporters will come around and vote Obama in Nov. After all, where else can they go?   So let's keep having fun beating them up!"

So, Obama people, spot yourselves as well as spotting the so-called "republican trolls".

It's been an interesting time here, but I am off to work for America. There is no convincing or reporting here, nor any real discussion.

As for me, I believe it is very important for the democrats to know who they've chosen if they go with Obama sometime next week as the "presumptive nominee".  Between now and August, my efforts on line, in the field of public discourse, and at the convention will be aimed at making sure the dems know who they're getting in Obama.  I am a proud life-long democrat and will still vote for the person I believe is the most qualified for POTUS in November.

Re: gloat mode (2.00 / 6)

Don't flatter yourself. You don't represent most Hillary Clinton supporters. I would be disappointed to see most of them go, because they are dedicated Democrats who will be key to winning in November and fighting for the ideals that both Barack and Hillary believe in.

But for those who led the dkos exodus, and those who continue to trash our nominee, I would love to see them go. It would be great to have positive diaries about our candidate, negative ones about John McCain, and substantive diaries about other issues.

And another strike might help us get the trash off the rec list.

You must be in Stage #3 ANGER & BARGAINING (none / 0)

Here is the grief model called "The 7 Stages of Grief":

7 Stages of Grief...

1. SHOCK & DENIAL-
You will probably react to learning of the loss with numbed disbelief. You may deny the reality of the loss at some level, in order to avoid the pain. Shock provides emotional protection from being overwhelmed all at once. This may last for weeks.

2. PAIN & GUILT-
As the shock wears off, it is replaced with the suffering of unbelievable pain. Although excruciating and almost unbearable, it is important that you experience the pain fully, and not hide it, avoid it or escape from it with alcohol or drugs.

You may have guilty feelings or remorse over things you did or didn't do with your loved one. Life feels chaotic and scary during this phase.

3. ANGER & BARGAINING-
Frustration gives way to anger, and you may lash out and lay unwarranted blame for the death on someone else. Please try to control this, as permanent damage to your relationships may result. This is a time for the release of bottled up emotion.

You may rail against fate, questioning "Why me?" You may also try to bargain in vain with the powers that be for a way out of your despair ("I will never drink again if you just bring him back")

4. "DEPRESSION", REFLECTION, LONELINESS-
Just when your friends may think you should be getting on with your life, a long period of sad reflection will likely overtake you. This is a normal stage of grief, so do not be "talked out of it" by well-meaning outsiders. Encouragement from others is not helpful to you during this stage of grieving.

During this time, you finally realize the true magnitude of your loss, and it depresses you. You may isolate yourself on purpose, reflect on things you did with your lost one, and focus on memories of the past. You may sense feelings of emptiness or despair.

7 Stages of Grief...

5. THE UPWARD TURN-
As you start to adjust to life without your dear one, your life becomes a little calmer and more organized. Your physical symptoms lessen, and your "depression" begins to lift slightly.

6. RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH-
As you become more functional, your mind starts working again, and you will find yourself seeking realistic solutions to problems posed by life without your loved one. You will start to work on practical and financial problems and reconstructing yourself and your life without him or her.

7. ACCEPTANCE & HOPE-
During this, the last of the seven stages in this grief model, you learn to accept and deal with the reality of your situation. Acceptance does not necessarily mean instant happiness. Given the pain and turmoil you have experienced, you can never return to the carefree, untroubled YOU that existed before this tragedy. But you will find a way forward.

7 stages of grief...

You will start to look forward and actually plan things for the future. Eventually, you will be able to think about your lost loved one without pain; sadness, yes, but the wrenching pain will be gone. You will once again anticipate some good times to come, and yes, even find joy again in the experience of living.

Alot of women like myself voted for Obama, at least 40%. Hillary does not have a monopoly on us.

Also, a Democratic Congress can't do much about McCains executive orders...you know..like the Mexico City policy?

Re: The power of a Democratic congress? (2.00 / 1)

After reading the names and ages on your list, petty squabbles between Democrats seem all the more stupid. Thanks for the reality check

Re: threat mode (2.00 / 4)

That's not a threat - it's not like we're saying we're going to do it.  We're asking you not to.

Anyway I hope you'll forgive me if I don't share your faith in the power of a democratic congress.  Tell me - when was the last time a Supreme Court nominee was voted down?  If you don't want to look it up I'll tell you.

The power of women is going to put Obama in the whitehouse.

Clarence Thomas was confirmed 52-48. (none / 0)

Confirmed by a Democratic Senate with a 57-43 majority.

Re: threat mode (2.00 / 3)

You don't understand the meaning of the word "threat". Throughout this primary season it's been the Clintonistas that have been threatening to go with McCain if we don't choose their way.

We're not threatening you with McCain -- it's you people who are threatening us with McCain. We're just trying you to make you understand what your threat means.

And as for a democratic congress, with the growing imperial presidency it's been weaker than ever.

Re: threat mode (none / 0)

It was never particularly strong, at least as far as the Supreme Court goes.  They haven't voted anyone down in 20 years.

Re: threat mode (2.00 / 3)

No, I think you are the one who underestimates women - in particular, you seem to underestimate women's ability to see the big picture.  You seem to think that women will just stay home out of anger, rather than looking at what's best for the country and voting for someone who shares their values and interests.

(And I think the past two years have been as good a demonstration of why not to put your faith in the "power of a democratic congress" against an intransigent executive we're going to get.)

We're not the ones threatening to appoint more Scalia clones to SCOTUS.  We're not the ones who think the Bush economy is just great.  We're not the ones who want to keep us in Iraq perpetually.

John McCain is.

If anyone's threatening you, it's him - not the people who point out what he wants to do.

My belief is most Democrats want to win the general election. There are a few..of course..who are, for whatever reason, more concerned with who the primary winner is as opposed to ending 8 years of  Bush.

Added...come November when gas is still $4 a gallon, the economy is still in the doldrums, and people are still seeing prices go higher than their wages...I suspect they'll be more concerned about that..and vote accordingly (most blaming the Republican administration), and less concerned about a primary that happened 5 months ago.

November??? Our gas is $4.26 at the cheapest station and the same gas station was $4.06 just a week ago. That's the cheap stuff- not the premium. We've been told that in several weeks it will be $4.50 and may remain that through the summer- but then there are articles saying they see it going to $5.00 before it stabalizes.

as a track coach I can testify that it can refer to the second to last step in a vertical or horizontal jump approach.  The step allows you to reposition your hips properly and correctly align your center of gravity.  If you do it right in a horizontal jump it helps you propel at the proper 45 degree angle necessary to achieve enough vertical lift to have a good jump.

For my next lesson I will discuss the merits of the glide vs. spin technique as used in the shot put.

Uhh, aside from the rang-troll ratings, the Clinton supporters here seem to be completely free to abuse their ratings and personally attack and troll other users with impunity.

I don't know what site you're talking about, but Obama supporters feel the wrath of the admins MUCH MUCH more often than Clinton supporters.

Re: They've done it, again. (none / 0)

I don't think most here want you to leave. Why would any of us be here if we wanted everyone to support Obama? We'd be at Kos or some other site. What we want IS discourse, but we'd like it to be more than just whining about how unfair Obama was or, as mentioned upthread, threats about withholding your vote and protesting the candidate. If you want to be the voice of the slim minority like Code Pink, just popping up in press conferences and being the laughing stock of the news cycle, go right ahead. But don't confuse that for discourse.

Hint: Discourse involves flexibility and adaptation. It is not just arguing the same damn points over and over and over and over and over again. I wouldn't even MIND you attacking Obama if it wasn't all about the same stuff.

Re: They've done it, again. (none / 0)

OOps. Not "if we wanted everyone to support Obama", "if we only wanted to hear from people who completely support Obama". Point being, we are here specifically FOR discourse. It's pointless to talk to someone who keeps talking about the same old crap. That's why nobody likes Ralph Nader anymore. The political scene has changed, and he's still pumping the same old crap.

Re: No, I definitely want 4justice to leave. (none / 0)

I wouldn't even say that, because I don't think most really ARE McCain supporters. They just plain have hate in their hearts right now. Some people have realized that and tempered it, others haven't yet. But people need to realize that if they feel like they're being persecuted, they're probably doing something to deserve it. Nobody has been banned for speaking their mind here, they have been banned for insults, troll rating and just generally trying to piss people off.

Maybe it's completely justified, maybe not. I'm not saying everyone who got banned were the most worthy candidates. But they were probably guilty.

I've done my share of arguing, I've done my share of insulting. But I've never felt I was in danger of being banned because I carry myself with a bit of decency. If I realize I'm being a jerk, I try to apologize. If I think I can find common ground with somebody, I will try. If everyone here just used common courtesy, it would be a marvelous place indeed.
